The European Union has agreed to a price of € 15.50 per dose for the corona vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech. This amounts to a total amount of 3.1 billion euros for the 200 million doses that have now been ordered, an EU person concerned reports Friday.
It comes down to 31 euros per person, because two doses are required.
When an additional 100 million doses are ordered, the total amount for this vaccine will be 4.65 billion euros. If the vaccines from CureVac are also purchased, the total amount will be more than 8.4 billion euros.
This means that Europe pays less for the vaccine than the United States. According to the party involved in the negotiations, the agreement with the EU would include an insurance clause that European countries receive compensation if ordered doses still go to the US.
For the CureVac vaccine, the EU has agreed a price of € 10 per dose for the first order of 225 million doses. Initially, those vaccines would cost 12 euros per dose.
