Since last week, there has been several news about vaccines. Pfizer was the first to announce, having revealed that its vaccine was “90% effective”. Modern Pharmaceuticals followed and today the revelation that the Chinese vaccine Coronavac it is “safe”.
Today Pfizer also revealed that after all its vaccine is 95% efficient.
As we have already mentioned on here, within two weeks, the results of three potential vaccines to combat COVID-19 were revealed. The first was the Pfizer (90%), followed by the Modern pharmaceutical (94.5%) and Coronavac, which is known to be “safe”.
Pfizer vaccine has 95% effectiveness starting at 28 days
However, the first complete results of clinical trials show greater efficacy than previously announced by manufacturers, reveals the journal Publico.
The vaccine presented is 95% effective starting 28 days after the first dose, without serious side effects, according to the first complete results of clinical trials. The disclosure was made through a statement that is available on the Pfizer website - see on here.
In this phase 3, 44,000 volunteers participated. The vaccine was administered in two doses three weeks apart.
The results show that of the 170 registered cases of infection, 162 occurred in the group that received the placebo and the rest in the group that received the vaccine. Ten serious cases of COVID-19 were counted, nine of them in people who received the placebo.
The percentage update is due to the fact that the company announced preliminary results. Pfizer had said that testing would continue until at least 164 cases of COVID-19 were detected. With the new data, the percentage with respect to efficiency was also updated, rising to 95%.
The company is now preparing to apply for emergency clearance in the USA. With regard to side effects, the results show that some patients were fatigued for a period and some had a headache.
