The American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer sued the Polish Government for non-payment for 60 million doses of the covid-19 vaccine, inform local media.
The European Commission signed con Pfizer a contract for 1.1 billion doses in 2021. In April 2022, the Polish government asked the company to cancel vaccine production and shipment. Now, Pfizer is demanding 6 billion zlotys (about 1.5 billion dollars) for the 60 million doses that the Polish Government rejected. The lawsuit was filed this week in Brussels. Apparently, the first hearing will take place December 6th.
«Pfizer and BioNTech seek that Poland fulfill your commitments “referring to orders for the Covid-19 vaccine placed by the Polish Government, as part of its contract for supplies to the European Union signed in May 2021,” a Pfizer spokesperson told Politico and added that BioNTech, the second developer of the vaccine, is also joining the proceedings.
The Polish Minister of Health, Katarzyna Sojka, confirmed that the lawsuit “seems to be underway” but that “it does not concern only Poland”. «These are lawsuits that are filed at the international level.
