Vaccine manufacturers Covid-19, Pfizer and BioNTech stated vaccine theirs remained 100 percent effective in adolescents aged 12-15 years for up to four months after the second dose of injection.
These results were obtained after Pfizer conducted tests on 2,228 teenagers. Among all the participants, there were 30 symptomatic Covid-19 cases. All were in the placebo group. Meanwhile, from the group of vaccine recipients, there were no symptomatic Covid-19 cases.
The investigators concluded that vaccine efficacy was consistently high across gender, race, obesity rates and comorbidity status.
“As the global health community strives to increase the number of people vaccinated around the world, this additional data provides further credence in the safety and effectiveness profile of our vaccines in adolescents,” Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said in a statement.
In addition, Pfizer also found no serious problems in individuals who received two doses of the vaccine after six months of follow-up.
According to Bourla, this finding is important considering that the spread of Covid-19 is increasing in the adolescent age group in a number of countries around the world.
“This is especially important because we are seeing Covid-19 rates increasing in this age group in some regions, while vaccine uptake is slowing. We look forward to sharing this data with the FDA and other regulators,” Bourla said.
