The increased delivery to the EU is also dripping on Norway, and FHI expects almost 1.2 million extra doses during the year.
– The agreement the EU has signed with Pfizer gives Norway 1.185 million doses, says section leader Knut Jønsrud at the section for vaccine supply in FHI to Dagbladet.
–
May come 2nd quarter
Exactly when Norway will receive the extra doses, however, is uncertain.
– Probably some of these doses may come in the second quarter, but we do not know for sure.
– How much does this have for the vaccination in Norway?
– It is generally the case that the more doses we receive, the faster the vaccination goes, says Jønsrud.
According to FHI’s statistics on vaccinated people in Norway, which were last updated on Friday, more than one million Norwegians have now received the first dose of the corona vaccine.
The new agreement with Pfizer comes as a result of the European Commission choosing to use the opportunity to buy another 100 million vaccine doses in line with an agreement signed on February 17 this year, Pfizer writes in a press release.
– We now intend to deliver a total of 600 million doses to the EU this year, which will cover two thirds of the EU population. It is the largest delivery agreement for Comirnaty (the corona vaccine) we have agreed globally, says commercial director Sean Marett in Biontech.
Last week came the news that Pfizer and Biontech will deliver 50 million vaccine doses to the EU faster than planned. The company thus plans to deliver 250 million doses to the EU in the second quarter. This is a fourfold increase in the agreed amount in the first quarter, writes NTB.
