Pfizer and Moderna: They Do Not Necessarily Generate Myocarditis and Pericarditis According to ISP Definition | National

After the document “Serious ESAVI: Myocarditis and/or Pericarditis” was published in the Official Gazette, several publications on social networks questioned the efficacy of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. This, since cases of these diseases have been detected after immunization with vaccines that use the mRNA platform. However, according to the ISP definition, there is not necessarily a causal relationship with the use of the drugs. “This is a suspicion that must be investigated and apply a case analysis methodology,” says the agency.

Various reactions on social networks left the approval of the document “I need you Seriously: Myocarditis and Pericarditis”published in the Official Gazette.

According to the text, cases have been reported worldwide of myocarditis, pericarditis, and myopericarditis from April 2021, after immunization with vaccines that use the messenger RNA (mRNA) platform.

In this group are the drugs against covid-19 of Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) and the Moderna laboratory (Spikevax).

On the other hand, it is added that committees of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted an evaluation of these cases.

“There is a causal relationship between the event and the administration of the vaccine. (…) These should be included as very rare side effects, for both of the aforementioned vaccines.”were the conclusions of these analyses.

Pfizer and Moderna: they do not necessarily generate affections

Myocarditis and pericarditis are conditions that involve the inflammation of the myocardium and pericardium, respectively. Among the symptoms of it is the chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, and irregular heartbeat.

Notably vaccines do not necessarily cause these diseasesbut it is a possibility that should be investigated.

According to Public Health Institutethe Events Supposedly Attributable to Vaccination and Immunization (ESAVI) are defined as follows:

“Any medical occurrence (any untoward or unintended sign, abnormal laboratory finding, symptom, or illness) that follows immunization and that does not necessarily have a causal relationship to the use of a vaccine.”

The body adds that “It is a suspicion that must be investigated and a case analysis methodology applied to establish if there is a possible causal relationship with the vaccine.”

Myocarditis and pericarditis: Minsal recommendation

According to the document “ESAVI Serious: Myocarditis and/or Pericarditis”, issued by the Undersecretary of Public Health in August 2021, second dose is not recommended if any of these diseases were experienced after the first.

In that case, the indicated thing would be to complete the vaccination scheme with another of the options that are approved in Chile.

Something similar happened in June of last year, when suspended the inoculation of the AstraZeneca vaccine in men under 45 years of age.

This decision was made after a 31-year-old patient side effects possibly associated with the administration of the medication.
