Pfizer and Moderna increase the price of their vaccines

First modification:

The American pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna reported the new price of their vaccines against the coronavirus, while, in Germany, the authorities will require a negative test from all travelers twelve years of age and older who want to enter German territory, even if they are already immunized people with the Covid-19 vaccine.

Vaccination against the coronavirus continues at a slow pace in much of the world, especially on the African continent. Many countries await vaccines through the Covax system or direct donations from developed countries.

The vaccination process could become even slower now that US pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna announced an increase in the price of their Covid-19 vaccines.

Next, the most relevant news this Sunday, August 1:

  • Pfizer and Moderna vaccines go up in price

The vaccines against Covid-19 developed by the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna will be more expensive as of this Sunday.

According to information published by the newspaper ‘Financial Times’, the price of their vaccines will increase in the last supply contracts to the European Union (EU).

The terms of the contracts, signed this year through 2023 for a total of 2.1 billion doses, were renegotiated after clinical studies indicated that the mRNA-type vaccines of these two companies had better efficacy rates than the cheaper Oxford ones. AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

In this way, the price of a dose of Pfizer went from the current 15.50 euros to 19.50 euros. And, the price of a dose of Moderna rose to $ 25.50, from about € 19 or $ 22.60 set in the first supply agreement.

With this new announcement, profits for pharmaceutical companies will be much higher as countries increase their orders to administer third doses of the vaccine.

  • Germany imposes new restrictions on travelers

Starting this Sunday, Germany will require a negative test for all travelers over the age of twelve who want to enter the country and have not received the Covid-19 vaccine or have not overcome the disease.

The negative test result also extends to immunized people if they enter the country from an area under the control of a more aggressive variant and not predominant in Germany.

Those who are not immunized and come from high-risk areas must be quarantined for ten days, and travelers arriving from areas with the presence of more aggressive variants of the virus must be quarantined for 14 days, regardless of whether they are immunized or not.

In the last week, cases in Germany increased with 17.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. As of Friday, 61.6 percent of the population had been vaccinated and 52 percent with the full schedule.
