On November 20, US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German company BioNTech plan to ask the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow the use of its new coronavirus vaccine in emergencies.
The companies said they were ready to start distributing the vaccine within a few hours of receiving the authorization, and said the FDA’s authorization would allow the vaccine to be used by people at high risk of infection by mid-December or the end of December.
Pfizer and BioNTech Covid-19 have shown 95% efficacy in clinical trials, according to the national information agency LETA.
The companies have also indicated that there are no serious concerns about the safety of the vaccine.
Pfizer and BioNTech are expected to deliver up to 50 million doses of the vaccine worldwide this year, but the number of doses delivered in 2021 will reach 1.3 billion, reports LETA.
