Pfeiffer and Mayer win German marathon championship in Hanover

Hendrik Pfeiffer and Domenika Mayer have secured the titles at the German marathon championships for the first time. Pfeiffer won the race over 42.195 kilometers in Hanover (Lower Saxony) on Sunday in 2:10:59 minutes and thus also ran the norm for the World Championships in July in Eugene in the USA as well as for the European Championships in August in Munich. However, it is only possible to start at one of the two consecutive high points of the season.

Domenika Mayer from Regensburg celebrated a successful marathon debut with the unexpected title win in 2:26:50 hours and finished 45 seconds ahead of favorite Rabea Schöneborn. The Berliner had physical problems at the end of the cold temperatures. The times were also below the norms for the World Cup and European Championship. A total of around 16,000 runners started in Hanover over various distances.
