Peugeot wants to compete with Tesla with the 508 successor

Autocar claims the next-generation Peugeot 508 will represent the most drastic and far-reaching shakeup within the automaker in a decade. From 2025, new Peugeot electric cars will switch to the STLA shared platform, as will the other 13 carmakers in the Stellantis group.

According to all information, the transition to another platform should, in addition to electromobility, bring fundamental changes in the technical layout of Peugeot electric cars and improve them with advanced systems, for example, within the framework of autonomous driving, wireless car control and others. The changes will also concern the engines, which should be more powerful. The batteries should have a longer range and also offer potential wireless charging.

With the 508 model, things looked lopsided for a long time, as it was speculated that Peugeot would rather support the growing D segment or build another crossover or SUV. However, the general director of the car company, Linda Jackson, said at the CES fair in Las Vegas, USA, that the French company has no intention of cutting down its model lines.

“We have some great models and we want to keep the same big line and the same number of them,” she told reporters. Apart from the 508, Peugeot intends to continue working on its wide range of crossovers, which should also gradually switch to purely electric drive.

The next generation Peugeot 3008 will be electric only. The larger 5008 is to follow
