The “midsize” pick-up category, with a ton of payload, represents more than 2.4 million annual sales worldwide. What arouse lusts. In recent years, several brands have tried their luck, hoping to recover a small part of this beautiful cake.
The key is a series of failures! The Fiat Fullback, Mercedes Class X or Renault Alaskan only managed to take a few crumbs from the benchmarks of the segment (Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux). But that did not cool Peugeot! The Lion in fact unveils a pick-up, the Landtrek.
Peugeot will however limit risk taking. Already, the model will not be offered in Europe. Leo is aware that sales would be marginal. The Landtrek will first be launched in regions where the pick-up market is well developed, namely Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. Peugeot has a good reputation on these markets, especially in Africa where its 504 pick-up was produced until 2005!
Another aspect: the manufacturer joined forces with the Chinese Changan to design this vehicle and thus share the costs. A Chinese version was already presented in 2019, with the name Kaicene F70. The Landtrek is distinguished by its front face, the rest being identical. The Peugeot receives in particular small bright teeth placed along the grille.
The Landtrek exists in a double cabin variant with a length of 5.33 meters and in a single cabin, measuring 5.39 meters. The body measures 1.63 or 2.43 meters in length, in both cases 1.60 meters in width (1.22 m at the wheels). What embark three euro-pallets on the simple cabin. The payload exceeds one tonne (up to 1.2 tonnes depending on the version). The brand will offer many accessories to configure the model according to its needs: running boards, glazed hard top, roll bar …
The good surprise comes from the interior, with a modern and neat presentation, close to the latest productions of the brand. There can thus be a 10 inch tablet-style screen, in height, and a row of piano-style buttons. Up to 6 people can take a seat on board, with a 3-seat bench at the front. The rear seat can be folded down in 60/40.
Two engines are on the menu: 2.4 turbo petrol of 210 hp and diesel 1.9 150 hp. The model exists in 4×2 propulsion or 4×4, with a short reports mode. There is a descent speed control system. The Landtrek can pass fords of 600 mm. The angles of attack and flight go up to 30 and 27 °. The 360 ° camera vision allows you to have a view around the car off-piste.
