New design, old technology
While the Peugeot 408 is likely to be sold as a new crossover in Europe, it is a classic sedan in the Chinese market. It was also offered in the Czech Republic, it is basically just a larger facelift model from 2014. This is evident in the side view, but the bow took over the design of modern Peugeots today. The car thus resembles the new generation of the Peugeot 308 hatchback and station wagon. The interior does not look bad at all, but it will look a little strange to Europeans, there is a different graphics of the instruments and the entertainment system. A single engine has settled under the hood, so there is no choice. But it is definitely not a disgrace. The supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine has a volume of 1.6 liters and reaches very nice values. The maximum power is 125 kW, ie 170 hp. The torque is 250 Nm. The unit sends its power to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with two clutches.
But Chinese customers can be totally envious of the price. Peugeot is evidently aware that, despite its attractive parameters, it has been offering eight-year-old technology. That’s why the car costs 119,700 yuan, which is 415,359 crowns. It is a pity that such a car is just a dream for an ordinary Czech motorist.
Although Peugeot will soon introduce the new 408, which is also intended for the European market, it is due to do so during June, but this model will be significantly different from the Chinese. In addition to the much higher price, according to the press release, we have to “wait for the unexpected”. So let’s see what they have prepared in France. It will not be a classic sedan.
