Peugeot has further developed its i-Cockpit to the curved and stretched Panorama i-Cockpit. The new 3008, which is becoming a “fastback SUV”, will be the first model to be equipped with it. The HD panoramic screen measures 21 inches (53.3 centimeters) and extends from the left edge to the center console in typical i-Cockpit fashion above the dashboard. It is attached to a rear bracket that is not visible from the passenger compartment. The floating effect is further emphasized by special LED ambient lighting below the screen.
The screen is curved towards the driver while remaining accessible to the passenger on the right-hand side. In the center of the dashboard are touch-sensitive controls that can be programmed to provide quick access to the ten most personally used functions: calling a favorite contact, starting navigation to a frequently used destination, favorite radio station or preferred temperature the air conditioner. In addition, the center console in the new i-Cockpit offers more space, as the selector lever for the automatic shifts to the right of the steering wheel.
The small steering wheel, an essential element of the i-Cockpit, has also been redesigned. The impact absorber has been reduced in size and the steering wheel rim is only connected in the middle with a central cross brace for the control buttons. The usual lower steering wheel spoke is missing. (awm)
