It has been ten years since Peugeot introduced the new i-Cockpit to the automotive market. The French House, which has been an inventive brand since 1810, has revolutionized one of the elements of the car that has evolved least over the decades.
And in fact, with the SR1 concept of 2010 he gave way to the idea of the i-Cockpit, which then found a productive outlet in the 2012with the arrival of the first generation of one of Peugeot’s most famous and best-selling cars, the 208. Today the brand celebrates 10 years and 9 million units produced.
Peugeot values: charm, emotion and technological excellence
An advanced technological system, capable of enhancing the ergonomics of the driver’s seat, which opens up a new path in the way of conceiving the positioning of the key elements of the passenger compartment, such as the steering wheel, the instrument panel and the touch screen in the center of the dashboard. A revision that proves effective in improving the usability and intuitiveness of the various commands, reducing the biomechanical overload of the human body.
Among the key elements linked to the Peugeot i-Cockpit are safety, driving pleasure and comfort, taken to a much higher level than the competition. It first appeared on 208after which it has never stopped over the years and has continued its evolution like the new models of the Lion brand, such as New 308 and 408.
To the characteristics described so far is added the optimal design of those that are the i-togglesthe controls positioned under the touch screen in the center of the dashboard, which allow you to manage the car’s main functions, making use intuitive and safe.
The key elements of the Peugeot i-Cockpit
Among the main features of this technology are:
- first the safety: greater control of the car thanks to the compact steering wheel, which allows for greater responsiveness. More immediate reaction to dangers, thanks also to the new 3D instrumentation which allows you to immediately grasp danger messages, being able to count on an instrument panel more in line with the visual axis facing the road,
- The comfort: thanks to the instruments more in line with the eye while driving, the eyes of the driver behind the wheel are less tired. Furthermore, the steering wheel moved further down relieves the load on the arms;
- The driving pleasure: greater responsiveness to the car’s commands, thanks to the compact steering wheel, on which the arms move less for the same manoeuvre, completing the very comfortable driving experience offered by Peugeot cars.
Let’s not underestimate then the aesthetic appearance of the carcleaner and more pleasing to the eye, more linear, which facilitates the interaction of the driver and passengers with the car.
Since its appearance on the first generation 208, the Peugeot i-Cockpit (what years ago was called the bridge of the future) it has never stopped over the years and has continued its evolution together with all the new models in the Leone range, while maintaining its main characteristics. From the first generation 208 it took a step forward with the digital instrument cluster, which it debuted with the second generation of the 3008 and 5008 SUVs, to then offer three-dimensionality with the second generation of 208, in 2019.
Then there was another recent evolution of this innovative concept, made possible with the introduction of i-Connect on New 308 and New 408: an even more customizable multimedia system close to the user experience of a tablet, with the new digital i-toggles, which can be configured according to the user’s needs and tastes, to personalize even more the driving seat.
