The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 parquet crossovers were the first to be equipped with the new hybrid system, which would later appear on many other Stellantis models.
At the heart of the new power unit is a seriously modernized turbo engine with three cylinders and a working volume of 1.2 liters. According to the developers, this is the third generation of the PureTech petrol engine and in this form it will be able to meet the future mandatory Euro-7 ecological standard.
Among the innovations are a new turbocharger with variable blade geometry, a chain instead of the belt in the drive section, as well as the ability to run the engine on the Miller cycle. After all these changes, the power went from 131 to 136 hp, but the torque remained the same (230 Nm).
Instead of the eight-speed Aisin automatic, the new engine has a robotic dual-clutch transmission developed by Punch Powertrain. A 48-volt electric motor with a capacity of 29 horsepower is integrated into the transmission.
The electric motor assists the internal combustion engine when driving at low speeds. As a result of this modernization, the engineers promise a 15% reduction in fuel consumption. The updated Peugeot 3008 and 5008 hybrid will appear on the European market as early as early 2023.
