Peugeot 508: The Impressive Design and Powerful Features of the New Model

The main change is that instead of the long fangs, there are 3 claw marks as Peugeot calls it, and overall it looks very impressive. You don’t even have to wait for darkness to appreciate the visual effect of the new optics. Three bright daytime running lights alternate with orange signals at turns. Smart matrix LED lights are now standard on both 508 trims – Allure and GT. The rear optics with the so-called running turn signals are also matched to the front. “Peugeot 508” is produced both as a hatchback and as a station wagon – with gasoline, diesel and gasoline plug-in hybrid engines. Its 225 hp variant is the most powerful 508 yet. Why not yet? Because in time, the Peugeot Sport Engineering model produced in small numbers will return to the lineup, which, if you remember, has electric all-wheel drive and almost 400 hp power.

At that time, the “Selenium Grey” gray color, which was exclusively intended for PSE, is now also available for other Peugeot 508 releases – including this one. Together with a wide “Peugeot” lettering on the back instead of the new logo, the paintwork and fastback silhouette give the car a more assertive look. The 180 horsepower of the plug-in hybrid 1.6-liter gasoline engine is supported by an 81 kW electric motor. Everything works through an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is now standard on all engine variants. Due to the running battery, the hybrid’s fuel tank is reduced – only 43 liters, while the diesel engine models can hold 55 liters, and the 1.2 turbo – even 61 liters of fuel.

The running battery capacity is 12.4 kWh. Its charging speed depends not only on the available charger, but also on the chosen internal charging power of the car – 3.7 or 7.4 kW. The question arises, is it worth considering the plug-in hybrid instead of the 13k cheaper petrol or 11,000k cheaper diesel model? This should be carefully considered, because the 1.2-liter gasoline model is not only cheaper, but also 300 kg lighter. Minimal steering angles, slight side tilts, good balance, acceptable sound insulation and unexpectedly good driving comfort even with low-profile tires – this characterizes the new Peugeot 508 from the point of view of driving.
