Last year they were the sales leaders, Peugeot 208 in all segments, while 2008 in the B-SUV sector. As of today, the company has fitted its successful cars with a new, more modern and technological automatic gearbox control, more elegant, ergonomic and more intuitive to use. The previous “snake” type selector is then abandoned, the new command recently developed takes its place.
It is an innovative and elegant selector perfectly integrated into the center console and flush with the surface. A new evolution that is not only included for the EAT8 thermal engines with automatic transmission, but also for the 100% electric models e-208 ed e-2008.
The selector design
With its design modern and captivating, the new gearshift lever frees up space in the center console. The integration adapts perfectly to the environment of the Peugeot i-cockpit 3D di 208 and 2008, a subtle blend of technology and ergonomics. Great quality level for the materials, which combine satin chrome, “piano” black, and the carbon-like appearance for the wrist rest. The finishes are at the highest standards of the market.
For all electric and thermal engines equipped with automatic transmission, this new command allows you to select, by impulse, the various modes:
- Reverse (R), for reverse;
- Neutral (N), to put the vehicle in neutral;
- Drive (D), allows you to select forward gear with automatic management of the 8 gears according to driving style, road profile and vehicle load.
Then there are two additional buttons that complete the functions:
- Parking (P), to put the gearbox in the parking position;
- Manual (M) for thermal engines, with which it is possible to manually select the gear engaged thanks to the levers located behind the steering wheel. In electric engines, on the other hand, the M button is replaced by Brake (B) and allows you to activate greater energy recovery during braking or deceleration.

Whichever function is selected (R, N, D, P, M or B), a lights up light indicator to signal its activation. The driver can also view the selected mode on the instrument panel. All versions of 208 and 2008 equipped with this new gearshift are equipped with an electric parking brake, which combines space saving with comfort and serenity in everyday driving.
The new control for the electric cars e-208 and e-2008
On Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, the two 100% electric versions, the M (Manual) button is replaced by a B (Brake) button, as mentioned above, which allows to increase the energy recovery during deceleration. If the mode B it is not activated, the deceleration is moderate when the pedal is removed from the accelerator and the sensation is similar to that of a car with thermal motor and automatic transmission.
On the other hand, when button “B” is inserted, then the deceleration increases and is accentuated when the accelerator pedal is released; energy recovery is also greater. Brake mode (B) remains active even after an impulse on the lever: there is no need to re-engage it when restarting, it remains active and keeps in memory the driver’s driving parameters.
