A little girl who has to go to the hospital again and again not only does not scare her, but she jumps into the void, literally speaking, aboard a trapeze. And that he raises funds to improve the living conditions of his colleagues. Another little girl who faces tough treatment for leukemia with an almost permanent smile. And a boy who shows that no disability beats the will to improve and the desire to practice sports. They are Daniela Querol from Vendeue, April Luque from Tarragona and Isaac Roig from Reus. They are children courage.
That bravery, among other reasons, was the reason why the ‘Diari’ chose them for the Bona Gent de Tarragona list. And it is probably also the reason that they obtained an impressive 12,313 votes.
On more than one occasion throughout the 18 days of voting (Monday 7 to Thursday 24 December), they topped the ranking. Finally they were second, 1,319 votes from La Salle students.
For Daniela, «it is incredible that so many people support you. I still not believe it. I can only say thank you very much ». At two years old, he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and autoimmune hepatitis. As she explains, “in my twelve years of life, I have been in and out of the hospital many times, I have even spent Christmas in hospital.” Four years ago, Daniela appeared on Got Talent with a number from her great passion, the trapeze. He wanted to win to donate the 25,000 euros of the prize for research on inflammatory and intestinal diseases. She did not win, but she reached the final and became ‘Petruska, the trapeze artist’. Since then he has performed in solidarity galas.
“I am very happy that so many people have voted,” says Abril. His running mate, Isaac, states that “first of all I want to thank you for all the support shown, and secondly to say that all these votes are a form of recognition of hard work.” Isaac wears a prosthetic left arm that does not prevent him from playing hockey.
All three send messages of encouragement to boys and girls who may find themselves in similar situations. «That they do not face things feeling inferior to the rest because they are just as capable of doing the same or more than the rest of the people. Even if people say that you cannot achieve it, with enthusiasm and hard work you can achieve what you set out to do, ”says Isaac.
“To all children like me, I would say that, even if it hurts or we always have to medicate, we never have to give up,” says Petruska.
April reminds them “that they have to be very brave, and they have to know that their body is very strong.”
And for the future? Petruska will not give up in her efforts to help other children: “As long as I can and my illness allows me, I will continue to be ‘Petruska, the trapeze artist’ and I will help any charitable cause”.
In sum, as Mireia and Alejandro, Abril’s parents, summarize, “we have a lot to learn from these children. They are incredible”.
