Petros Pappas submitted his letter of independence from SYRIZA to the Parliament a few hours after his statements about his departure from the Parliamentary Group, as he announced in a post on Facebook.
His post
“I submitted today to the President of the Parliament of the Hellenes my declaration of independence from the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA-P.S. We all experienced an escalation of totalitarian practices from the false leadership of SYRIZA.
A practice of applied anti-democratic practices that put SYRIZA outside the democratic arc. With a sense of responsibility, which stems from the vote and trust of the citizens, but also with my deep sensitivity and anxiety towards the Greek people, who are struggling to live with dignity, I am leaving the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA-PS. I joined SYRIZA in September 2019, responding to a broad democratic call to transform the party into a major centre-left, progressive faction. Unfortunately, my hopes and the hopes of all of us, for the realization of this purpose, were completely dashed.
The bureaucratic factions preferred to turn SYRIZA, from a hopeful vanguard of the democratic space, into a bankrupt company, leaving defenseless the citizens who invested in SYRIZA their hopes for a better life. The disgraceful Congress, methodically prepared by the collective para-leadership of the party, was chosen in order to exclude the base of SYRIZA from the proceedings and stage a “Colosseum” of cannibalism, conflicts and hatred, which have nothing to do with the glorious history of the Democratic Party. Lineup of the place. As a matter of principle, I believe that the seats belong to the voters of the parties and by extension to the parties.
In today’s SYRIZA, however, I cannot give up my parliamentary seat to a leadership that detests SYRIZA voters and seeks to ostracize them. I do not recognize her, since her anti-democratic and substitutive actions deprived her of any legitimacy. I express my solidarity and respect to all the democratic voters of SYRIZA, who are experiencing the bitter denial of their “poor hopes”. I call on them not to be led to extreme actions, which have nothing to do with the History of our political space.
I shake the hand of every democratic citizen who feels homeless and betrayed, with the promise that today’s darkness is not the end. The hope for a better life cannot be extinguished, it is the business of all of us, it is the bet of the local Democratic Party, it is our generative power. #πετρος_πάππας #βουλη #βουλευτης #independence #democracy”.

SYRIZA for Petros Pappas: Immersed in disrepute
The independence of Petros Pappas was not left unoccupied by SYRIZA. In the announcement issued by Koumoundourou it is noted that “Petros Pappas was “distinguished” for a series of positions and initiatives, which were outside the context of the Left and for which he had been reprimanded”.
“His political presence reflects the genre and stigma of the ‘new, coming’. He is a typical example of a member of the Kasselakis party. Now that the liquidation plan of SYRIZA has been revealed, a leader and an implementer is entering it” is also mentioned in the relevant text.
For SYRIZA, Petros Pappas “will always remain immersed in his disrepute. He will always bear the stigma of the willing renegade. Especially if a party is found, apart from Kasselakis, to surround him and save him from political obscurity”.
