American John Szczecina is without a job after he made a huge noise at work, writes The Washington Post.
Szczecina was recently to set the price of petrol at the Shell station he was the general manager of – and totally missed.
He was to set the price at 6.99 dollars, ie 69 kroner, per gallon.
One gallon is just under four liters.
He missed with the decimal, and set the price at 69 cents, ie 6.90 kroner.

It did not take long for people to start flocking to the gas station, located in the city of Rancho Cordova in California.
That may not be so strange.
The last time motorists could buy petrol for only 69 cents per gallon was according to the local channel KOVR in 1978.

The rumors spread
Rumors of the record low petrol price spread on social media, and people showed up in large numbers to fill the tank for cheap money.
The huge loss cost the petrol station NOK 200,000.
When Szczecina finally discovered the mistake, he exclaimed this according to the local channel KOVR:
– This is a nightmare.

The owners of the gas station responded by kicking Szczecina.
He understands that well. He tells The Washington Post:
– Even if it cost me the job, it’s fine. The truth is that it was my fault. Nobody says that anymore, but I felt that it was important to take responsibility for the mistake and do everything I can to correct it.
Shell has not commented on the firing, but informs the American tabloid newspaper The New York Post that the gas station in question has private owners.
Szczecina says that in just a few days he has sent out ten job applications, and that he hopes that he will soon get a new job.

Fuel prices in the US are according to The stock exchange about double the prices that were last year.
According to American Automobile Association (AAA), an American service and interest organization for car owners and the automotive industry, the average price of gasoline is now five dollars per gallon.
