Over the past month, the theme of expensive fuel has returned to the front pages of every newspaper. The economic situation of the whole country and in general of the entire Eurozone is in fact putting families and companies in serious difficulty. As we know, at the turn of the summer months, numerous interventions by EU governments allowed fuel prices to stabilize for a certain period of time. However, with the arrival of winter we are reliving the same situation and this time some anti-inflation measures will be totally eliminated…
Looking back at this year which is about to end, everyone knows very well that it hasn’t been a very positive year for our country. The situation immediately became more complicated with the war in Ukraine, which already from the first months of the year put the entire European supply system in difficulty.
In fact, the conflict has disrupted the flow of low-cost energy that in past years came from Russia. This block clearly immediately showed all the fragility of the European system which was very dependent on these energy sources and for this very reason we motorists noticed the change at the petrol pump almost immediately.
In fact, in many areas of Italy in this period, the price of gas is skyrocketing while that of petrol is slightly down. However, the bad news may not be over given that in recent weeks the government will have to decide whether to maintain a series of measures that have helped to control prices in recent months.
Another blow to pump prices is coming
With the current situation in which the debate on a possible ceiling on the price of gas is still open at the European Council, we motorists just have to wait and hope that the right decisions on prices are taken.
In the specific case we should be very careful in the coming months, and see if the government will maintain a whole series of emergency anti-inflation measures, which in recent months have proved essential to have more or less normal costs at the petrol pump.
In this regard, Spain is evaluating the elimination of a discount of 20 cents on the price of petrol which had come into effect in the first months of the year. For Spanish motorists it could clearly prove to be a nightmare as these people will see the price of petrol literally jump by 20 cents overnight.
For us too, these measures could soon be eliminated, and for this reason it is essential to start thinking about alternative ways to save on consumption.
