Petrol more expensive again, record prices at the pump in Belgium too

Gasoline prices continued to rise on Saturday. The Dutch suggested retail price for Euro95 rose on Saturday to a new record amount of 2,227 euros per liter, according to data from consumer collective UnitedConsumers, which monitors the recommended prices of five major oil companies on a daily basis.

For diesel, a suggested retail price of 1.9050 euros per liter applies. The suggested retail prices usually only have to be paid along the highway. It is possible to refuel for less at various cheap pumps in the Netherlands.

The prices for petrol and diesel are not only rising rapidly in the Netherlands. In neighboring Belgium, too, more and more have to be paid for a full tank. At the pump, a liter costs a maximum of 1.8690 euros per liter, according to data from the sector organization for energy Energia. That is 7 cents per liter more than the day before. The maximum price of Euro98 (E5) also continues to rise. This fuel became about 6 cents more expensive to 1,9380 euros per litre. Belgians also have to pay more for diesel; 1.9050 euros per litre.

Nevertheless, the high petrol prices would make it increasingly attractive to refuel across the border. That is also the fear that gas station operators previously expressed, because Dutch prices would also increasingly be out of step with those of neighboring countries.

UnitedConsumers compares fuel prices in the Netherlands with those of other European countries. According to the consumer collective, the petrol price in Belgium is on average 16 percent lower. In Germany you spend on average 15 percent less for a full tank. With a 50-litre refueling, that saves about 15 to 16 euros. The difference with diesel is smaller, with Belgium even having to pay a little more.
