Italians with bated breath, pay attention to petrol and diesel prices: the situation in Italy has changed in recent days
Motorists are, obviously, always very attentive to what the average fuel prices are, in the hope of being able to have positive news on the matter. It is obviously not easy for this to happen. The increase in fuel prices, as everyone will know, is affected by both VAT and, above all, the very high excise duties that distinguish our country. An evil, unfortunately, necessary to meet cash needs, given that they are often also used to deal with emergencies of various types. Consider that, even today, there are as many as nineteen consumption taxes imposed on fuel and its surroundings, some of which are probably completely anachronistic or almost so. Just to give an example, the financing for the Ethiopian campaign of the mid-1930s still persists, but also the increase in prices introduced to help remedy the Vajont dam disaster. To increase the displeasure and discouragement, data that can be used in comparison with other countries belonging to theEuropean Union. Compared to the average, users in our country pay approximately 100% for petrol 9% morewith a greater outlay that comes close to seven euros more for each full tank, and even11.% more diesel (+7.2 euros full).
A trend, moreover, which has become increasingly negative in recent years. After a phase of decline in 2020, prices underwent a dramatic increase throughout 2021, recording the highest peak in the last 10 years in March 2022, also due to very specific geo-political causes. The outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, in fact, had a significant impact in this sense. It is unlikely that the situation will have real shocks in the near future, also thanks to the direction that the international market of so-called refined products seems to be taking and the trend in oil prices.
Now it’s official: prices are dropping slightly. Here are all the specific quotes
The latest data, however, can bring at least a smile. Taking last week into consideration, therefore between Monday 26 February and Sunday 3 March, fuel prices remained stable, without experiencing the increases that, instead, characterized the beginning of 2024. According to the data collected by the observatory fuels of Mimit (Ministry of Business and Made in Italy)the average price of gas it stood at 1.852 euros per litre, with a slight drop by 7 thousandths compared to the previous week.
The price of diesel has decreased by 1.4 cents, reaching 1.813 euros per liter in the same survey. LPG was stable, remaining essentially unchanged, at 0.724 euros per litre. The most significant change was recorded in methane, which fell by 1.3 cents, settling at 1.336 euros per kilogram. Bad news for motorists (AnsaFoto)
Going into the specifics of the data relating to the most commonly used fuels, we can tell how the self service travel at 1.855 euros per liter (1.858 for the companies and 1.848 for the white pumps), while for self-service diesel we are around 1.815 euros per liter (1.819 for the companies and 1.806 for the white pumps). If, instead, you usually opt for the servedthe data from Staffetta Quotidiana speak of 1.995 euros per liter for petrol (2.037 for the companies and 1.913 for the white pumps) and 1.955 euros per liter for diesel (1.997 for the companies and 1.870 for the pumps white).
Curiosity now turns to tomorrow. In this sense, forecasts for the near future indicate a potential slight increase for petrol and, on the contrary, falling prices for those who have to refuel diesel engines.
