After the Ministry of Defense indicated that it did not find more information about the alleged plan to attack the attorney general, Francisco Barbosa, President Gustavo Petro assured that the head of the investigative entity was deceived and failed to verify his sources.
“A senior state official has been fooled. We never learned of an attack plan against him except through his own public statement. The origin of his deception has to do with the processes to verify sources. Deeper in military intelligence than in the Prosecutor’s Office “Petro indicated.
According to the Colombian president, the source verification problem was due to the fact that “The same source came to both entities; the faster his information reached the official without further verification and he made it public.”
This, said the president, generated a “prejudice and irresponsible political characterization of the President of the Republic”, which for the Head of State demonstrated the desire to slow down the process of choosing the new prosecutor: “It disregards the respect for the institutions and only shows the desire so that the constitutional procedure for the replacement of the prosecutor is not verified.”
Despite this dismissal, Petro assured that Attorney General Francisco Barbosa “I have always personally offered him my support for the security he requires, as is my duty, and I will continue to do so.”
