Petro defends credit requested by Francia Márquez to buy a home

This week it was learned that the National Savings Fund must make a decision regarding the request for a mortgage loan requested by Vice President Francia Márquez to buy a home. This fact sparked a controversy, which even led to the official speaking out a few hours ago on the issue since this Saturday (December 8), President Gustavo Petro also made a reference on social networks.

“This is what certain sectors of society would like the vice presidents to do. We don’t do that,” Petro said.

Then, the president defended Francia Márquez and pointed out that he bought his house on credit and that makes him proud: “As a congressman at some point I took credit from the National Savings Fund as a public servant that I was, I bought my first apartment, they wanted to seize my house and they seized my income. I am proud to say that I bought my house on credit and not by stealing. The attack on France for receiving a loan has to do with the fact that they do not understand how a black person in her skin can be vice president of the Republic and obtain a loan.

The Vice President had also spoken about this issue, defending the request for the loan and explaining the reason why she was doing so. “What’s wrong with me applying for a mortgage loan that allows me to access secure housing for my family? Perhaps you and other officials who have occupied the State have never had to go into debt because they have had everything. But for me and for the majority of Colombians, accessing credit to have a home is an everyday effort,” said the vice president.

And the vice president added: “I do it with my head held high, without stealing resources from the State or getting involved with drug trafficking mafias. Thank God”.
