The latest initiative, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, provides for the exchange of all Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for the release of 1,290 Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli penitentiaries, according to Egyptian sources told EFE.
It also includes a pause in fighting in three phases, lasting 124 days, in which a cessation of military operations would be implemented in parallel with an increase in humanitarian aid for the Palestinians.
At the moment, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has not given an official response and a delegation is in Cairo meditating on the proposal.
Petro’s words come days after Colombia officially notified Israel of the breaking of diplomatic relations in rejection of what the Colombian president considers a “genocide” in Gaza.
