Petrer will debate in plenary session on the need for social housing

United Left will carry out the debate on the new Law for the Right to Housing being developed by the Council of Ministers. It will do so through a motion that arises from a citizen initiative led by the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages, PAH, and other groups such as UGT, CCOO or the Christian Workers’ Youth, JOC, among others, as announced by the mayor Rafa Masiá, accompanied by Martín Cutillas and María José Sánchez, from the PAH. The plenary session will take place next Thursday.

Masiá has said that since the 2007 crisis, unemployment and the housing problem have grown, “Well, many families prioritized between eating or paying the mortgage”. Cutillas has pointed out that at this moment in which the so-called Law for the Right to Housing is being developed, it is essential that it include a series of measures that protect people and that the stock of social housing is expanded.

Sánchez, for his part, has indicated which are the eight measures that they consider essential for this new law and that they ask for support from the city council: guarantee the right to decent, affordable and adequate housing as a subjective right; stop the evictions of vulnerable people with no alternative; expand the public park for social rental; regulate at the national level rents to wages; guarantee the basic supplies of water, electricity, and telecommunications; guarantee an effective second chance for households with mortgage debt; that the population can actively participate in housing and urban planning policies; and expand the budget for social housing and social policies to 2% nationwide.

This morning it was announced at an appearance.
