Petre Roman: “The most important thing was to count as an EU country. Romania was the last carriage of the train”

Petre Roman, former prime minister of Romania, was the guest of Marius Tucă in an edition transmitted live by Gândul. He says that Romania had the chance to be an active state, but this did not happen. Watch here, in full, Marius Tucă’s show.

“The president said that Romania is a failed state, which really surprised me. If we think about its history, Romania is a formidable state”, declared the former prime minister.

Petre Roman added that he was the one who led the accession negotiations to the European Union, and even proposed the integration date (January 1, 2007). “Some said that we were far away, that it was impossible, but it was so. The most important thing was to count as a member country of the European Union. I said that Romania was always a last train car. We had the opportunity to be in the locomotive, which means being an active state, but that didn’t happen – they didn’t make any strategy in this sense, they didn’t think about those fields in which Romania can be.”
