The huge slalom and the Alpine Skiers’ World Cup slalom (January 8 and 9) will not take place in Maribor.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) has thus decided due to the current snow conditions and unfavorable weather forecast. He is looking for a possible alternative venue, in the past the race from Maribor moved to Kranjska Gora.
The Slovak Petra Vlhová, who triumphed in a huge slalom in 2019 together with the American Mikaela Shiffrinová, will not perform in Maribor again. In a city that lies only at 275 meters above sea level, unusually high temperatures prevail for this time of year and, according to the APA, will persist in the coming days.

The organizers of the traditional event “Golden Fox” have experience with such a situation from previous years, the prestigious series will not visit Maribor in the third season in a row and for the fourth time from the previous five years.
Each time there was a competition in Kranjska Gora, at the beginning of 2021 two “giants” took place in the center and both became the prey of the Italian Marta Bassinová. Vlhová took fourth and tenth place. The year before, she had won the trophy for the most successful skier of the event, when after the second place in the giant slalom she won the slalom.
