Michelle Gisin from Switzerland finished third (+0.24 s). Slovak Petra Vlhová did not start, the leader of the overall ranking of the World Championships Mikaela Shiffrinová from the USA was in the 16th position after the departure of the first thirty (+1.01).
Former leader of the discipline evaluation Sofia Goggio from Italy had an unpleasant fall, but she skied down the slope on her own. After the competition, she had an examination of her left knee at a hospital in Milan. In ideal conditions, Curtoni came out on the track as the fifth, in the second half of the slope she got into the green numbers and kept the lead until the finish.
The 30-year-old ski rider achieved her second World Championship triumph. She confirmed Italian dominance in the event this season, when the country’s national team won five of the six races. In the ongoing evaluation, the super-G jumped from third to second place.
Federica Brignone, the second Italian skier after Goggio with two of this season’s super-G victories, finished just behind the podium in fourth place (+0.32). However, she took the lead in the running order of the discipline. Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland, the only woman who managed to break Italian dominance in the super-giant slalom in the season, finished 13th (+0.83).
“It’s such a bittersweet victory. I’m happy to have won, to have been able to go well. But I was also worried about Sofia. She was shocked.” the AP agency quoted the winner.
Twenty-six-year-old Vlhová did not perform in Cortina d’Ampezzo this weekend in Saturday’s downhill or in Sunday’s super-giant slalom. He wants to focus fully on the giant slalom in another Italian resort, Kronplatz, where he will complete a general at the Beijing Olympics on Tuesday, January 25. She tried sliding disciplines this season in Zauchensee, Austria. A week ago, she finished 26th in the downhill and finished 18th in the super-G.
