As expected, Slovenian organizers of the Alpine Skiers’ World Cup event moved giant slalom and women’s slalom (January 8 and 9) from Maribor to Kranjska Gora. The International Ski Federation (FIS) informed about it on Friday.

It was already known on Thursday that the World Championship in Maribor will not be able to take place due to the current snow conditions and unfavorable weather forecast. The city, which lies only at 275 meters above sea level, has unusually high temperatures for this time of year and, according to the APA, will persist in the coming days.
Slovak Petra Vlhová has the most beautiful memories of Maribor from 2019, when she triumphed in a huge slalom together with the American Mikaela Shiffrinová.

After the cancellation of the event in Maribor, a search for an alternative venue immediately began and, as in previous years, the race moved to Kranjska Gora. The organizers of the traditional “Golden Fox” event have extensive experience with such a situation, the prestigious series will not visit Maribor in the third season in a row and for the fourth time in the previous five years.
Each time there was a competition in Kranjska Gora, at the beginning of 2021 two “giants” took place in the center and both became the prey of the Italian Marta Bassinová. Vlhová took fourth and tenth place. The year before, she had won the trophy for the most successful skier of the event, when after the second place in the giant slalom she won the slalom.

In Kranjska Gora, the competitors have a huge slalom scheduled for Saturday, January 8 (9.30 / 12.30), and a day later a slalom is scheduled for the same time. Before that, women will be waiting for the slalom in Zagreb on Tuesday, January 4.
