Petra Vlhová in Mont-Tremblant: Challenges, Results, and Upcoming Races

BRATISLAVA. Slovak skier Petra Vlhová moved to another World Cup resort. A stop in Mont-Tremblant is a novelty for many female skiers. Two giant slaloms are on the program.

“I always try to adapt to a new slope as quickly as possible. The faster the better. There are many variables that can shuffle the cards. However, I believe that I will adapt as quickly as possible and I will be able to load the hill immediately.

It is a challenge for all of us. He will show himself in the first round. I have enough experience to handle this situation,” she said at an online press conference.

She didn’t have her day

Elite female skiers have a stop in Killington. Vlhová took tenth place in the giant slalom, she finished second in the slalom.

“Saturday was not ideal and I did not feel well in the giant slalom. I finished second in the slalom. On the one hand, we are satisfied because I was on stage. On the other hand, I know that the first round was not ideal and if I want to win, I have to give two good rounds,” she said.

The Slovak admitted that she had not been feeling well on skis for the past few days. Especially in Saturday’s giant slalom.

“From the first gate to the finish I didn’t feel well. I can look for conditions, wind, etc behind it. However, I myself did not feel ideal. I don’t need to analyze it anymore, I didn’t have my day.

I believe it will improve in the next races. In the giant slalom, we are still a little behind compared to the slalom,” she admitted.

Good feeling on skis

In the evaluation of the discipline, the Olympic champion after two events is in sixth place with 86 points. In the lead is the Swiss Lara Gutová-Behramiová, who dominated both opening turns.

What are her goals at the Canadian center?

“Last weekend and the next two training days, I didn’t feel good on my skis. Therefore, it is difficult to talk about what the ambitions are in the Tremblant race. We want to attack the podium and win, but my goal will be to find the right and good feeling on the skis and get it back. I believe that I will succeed and feel good again.

It happens in sports that sometimes you feel good and then there comes a period when you don’t feel good. I don’t analyze why this is so, I just try to get up every morning and believe that it will get better. However, in sports everything is possible and many things change. After all, I’m not as good in the giant slalom as I am in the slalom,” she admitted.

Advantageous track construction

The course of the first round in Sunday’s giant slalom is being built by coach Mauro Pini.

“Theoretically, this can be an advantage, but Mauro is the type of coach who is not afraid to build a more difficult track. He can take it upon himself. I am a technical racer and we believe that I can also ride a more difficult course. We are trying to follow this path. I take it positively and not negatively. I’m not stressed about my coach building the track,” she explained.

Vlhová will not get to the Flying Mile slope until the day before the race.

“I have no idea what the conditions are like and what the hill is like. I hope they will let us on the racing hill. Many of us have never competed here before,” she expressed concern.

Canadian skier Valerie Grenierová has the advantage of her home environment, who commented on the slope as simple, but at the same time challenging.

“I skied on the slope all my youth, so I know it very well. However, over the years it has changed, it is wider. It’s still a very interesting track though. There are two good valleys and then a flat with different terrain undulations. There’s always something going on. I would say that it is a pleasant slope, but not completely easy,” commented Grenierová.

Another program

On the way home, Vlhová’s team will stop at a hockey game in Montreal. Juraj Slafkovski’s team is playing an NHL home game against the Seattle Kraken.

“He knows that I will come there. I don’t know if we’ll have a chance to meet, but I’m not pushing it. It’s a side thing and I’m concentrating on the race. But it will be a nice diversion.”

It is already known what her next program is after returning to Europe. Vlhová will not compete in speed disciplines in the Swiss St. Moritz nor in the French Val d’Isère, he will then complete the race only on December 21.

The program includes a night slalom in the French resort of Courchevel.
