Petr Kotvald is a fixture of the Czech music scene. Not to say, he sang before he spoke. But when did he rise to the top?
Kotvald claims that, according to his grandmother and mother, he sang before he spoke. He also sang as a teenager, but for the first time people from the industry noticed him only at the ASUD competition, the Army competition of artistic creativity, where he and his band Blesk made it to the finals.
“In 1979 I went to the competition in Jihlava again, which I won, and for the first time I met Karel Vágner for the first time. After some time I was at a costume rehearsal for a TV show, we met there again. Karel Vágner gave me there. an offer to sing as one of two boys with Hanka Zagorová, ” described for Czech Radio its beginnings.
In the autumn of 1980, he received an invitation to film New Year’s Eve that year, where he came across Stand Hložka and only before his studies, Hana Zagorová. “The shooting of Hitšaráda Karel Šíp followed, and only there did I get an offer to cooperate, and in 1981 we started rehearsing the concert program,” he added.
He describes this chapter of life as “a fantastic five and a half years” and as “one big ride.” Then he went on a solo career, which he is still on today.
