Petőfi 200 – The National Museum – Dunakanyar Region produced short films about the period of the Reformation and the War of Independence

The short films produced by the Hungarian National Museum (MNM) show the period of the Reformation and the War of Independence. “Scenes from the 19th century” – MNM informed MTI on Wednesday.

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Petőfi, the institution’s museum educators and museum educators created a 3-part short series, which is available on the institution’s YouTube channel, thanks to the tender support of the National Cultural Fund, the MNM announced.
In the short films, the viewers can get to know the thoughts and emotions of the era through the everyday life of an imagined family and the person of Petőfi. The focus is on a young aristocratic sibling pair: Mária and Lívia Szentirmay.
In the story, an old, dusty chest is found in the attic, which hides exciting secrets. The descendants of the Szentirmay family find the memories of their ancestors and thus have the opportunity to put the pieces together. They already knew that the father, Kálmán Szentirmay, served as a high-ranking officer of the emperor, and that the girls’ beloved cousin was a devoted supporter of the Hungarian cause. Reading the letters, the family’s history comes to life and many new questions arise. Among other things, what might have awaited the young ladies at the outbreak of the War of Independence in 1848-49, whether they could decide their fate and how the two faithful maids could help and ease their pain.
As they write, the staff of the museum have created a new, online museum pedagogy session for the short films, so that the topic and the era can be learned more deeply within the framework of a class.
The films also serve an educational purpose, the accompanying teaching material will be available on the museum’s website from the end of March, the announcement states.
