- It depends on the answer of “Renew Europe” whether “We continue the change” will be Euroliberals
- The movement only had to tell itself where it sees itself in the future
- Similar questions should have been asked in the EPP regarding GERB, the Prime Minister explained
Conditions under which “We continue the change” would join the liberal group “Renew Europe”, set Kiril Petkov at a working lunch with the European presidents and prime ministers participating in this group.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister
was invited to join
the group of the President of France
Emmanuel Macron. Renew Europe is a movement founded by Macron, and the ALDE Party of European Liberals, of which the MRF is a member, is a member.
Petkov’s conditions for joining “Renew Europe” are connected with the movement.
“I wanted to discuss the condition when we talk about zero tolerance for corruption – it should be from the local level to Brussels. Let’s not close our eyes to local corruption, but at the Brussels level everything should be fine. Macron and Mark Rutte said this was the new Europe of rules and laws. But we should not talk about the MRF as a political party, but who are the people in the MRF and what is the standard. The MRF has many questions to ask itself, “Petkov said on Monday about his talks with the Prime Ministers of Renew Europe.
In addition to the President of France and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, the group also includes the Prime Ministers of Belgium Alexander de Croe, Luxembourg’s Xavier Bethel, Estonia’s Kaya Callas and Ireland’s Michael Martin. This is the third largest faction in the European Parliament. The PP as a party cannot enter because there is no registration yet, nor MEPs. But Petkov may be part of the group of prime ministers and presidents in Renew Europe.
His condition is related to MRF MP Delyan Peevski, it became clear from the statement of the Prime Minister, although he did not name him.
“First, the PP will have an executive council, we will discuss together, we will see the answer to these questions that I asked” Renew Europe “. And liberal parties in Europe are being renewed. I would ask what the MRF should do to be part of this new standard. How would people from “Magnitsky” justify being in the front row of the parliament. Let them tell themselves where they see themselves as a future in Europe. We know where we are. We to be inside (in “Renew Europe” – b.r.)“There must be clear rules that people at high risk of corruption are not there,” Petkov said. The only MP to fall under US sanctions under last year’s Magnitsky Act was Delyan Peevski. However, the Prime Minister suggested that
and in the EPP they had to ask themselves the same
questions regarding GERB
Just a week ago, when it became clear that “We continue to change” they were invited to join “Renew Europe”, this was interpreted as a desire to reformat the European group, which some linked to a break with the MRF.
Petkov’s request to Macron and other European liberal prime ministers comes two weeks after a scandal erupted with the prime minister’s threat to the MRF.
“I will fix you”
he told the movement’s deputy chairman, Stanislav Anastasov, in a conversation in the parliament hall, the MP said last Wednesday. This happened on May 13, when during the blitz control in the parliament Anastasov asked the Prime Minister why the MRF and the name of Delyan Peevski were involved in corruption and why he connected them with the construction of “Turkish Stream”. A day earlier, before a government meeting, Petkov announced that he had ordered the construction to be investigated. He did not mention party names then. But after the MRF was outraged that he was involved on Friday the 13th, Petkov directly linked them to corruption and the US Magnitsky Act, under which Peevski was sanctioned in 2021.
Due to Petkov’s threats, MRF leader Mustafa Karadayi sent an official inquiry to the United States and State Department sanctions coordinator James O’Brien, because the name was mentioned in Anastasov’s words. According to Anastasov, the prime minister then added a warning to the MRF to expect news within three weeks.
Until the editorial end of the issue, a representative of the movement did not comment on the condition that Petkov set for Macron and others in “Renew Europe”. (24 hours)
