A petition signed by more than 19,000 people calls for better access to training and work for those in exile. Access to education urgently needs to be simplified, the petitioners in Bern demanded on Wednesday. The integration of exiled people into school, training and work is insufficient, criticized the coalition behind the national campaign “Education for all – now!” At a press conference.
Refugees, asylum seekers, failed applicants and undocumented migrants often face almost insurmountable obstacles. The political world is invited to ensure that the “Swiss Integration Agenda” guarantees the right and access to education for all. This regardless of the residence status and according to the potential of each.

A fully-fledged training
Exiled children and their families must also be quickly accommodated in suitable places and integrated into ordinary compulsory school classes. Young people of post-compulsory school age need full and full-time training, more generous vocational preparation programs and support and encouragement, also for the gymnasium.
People who take training should also be able to complete it, even if their asylum claim is rejected. The Confederation, the cantons and the universities, for their part, must ensure that refugees arriving with a good education are supported in accessing higher education institutions and that their diplomas are better recognized. Everyone, including exiles, should be able to benefit from training offers, even as adults.
