A petition for the House of Representatives should ensure that more attention is paid to misunderstood medical problems in women.

In two days, the petition has already been signed more than 4400 times and this is expected to increase significantly.

Mirjam Kaijer, author of the recently published book ‘I am not a man!’, started the petition because eighty percent of people with unexplained complaints are women and there is still too little research into this.

Kaijer also launched a platform on Radio 1 on Tuesday afternoon where women can go with their stories about misunderstood complaints, from both themselves and family members.

“A woman told about her grandmother who had ended up in an asylum because her complaints were regarded as ‘hysteria’, while it was probably simply a physical problem,” said Kaijer.

In total, Kaijer hopes to collect 40,000 signatures to make a clear statement and thus get the House of Representatives full attention.

The petition can be signed at www.mirjamkaijer.nl
