Freiburg – The next goal of the record scorer was not enough. SC Freiburg and VfL Wolfsburg split 1: 1 (1: 1) at the end of the second match day of the Bundesliga.
Striker Nils Petersen brought the Breisgauers into the lead in the eleventh minute, but Josip Brekalo (42nd) scored to equalize in front of 3200 spectators. The Freiburg team missed the victory they had hoped for in their first home game in three months, but four out of six possible points mean a respectable start to the season. VfL, who are also challenged in the Europa League qualification, are still waiting for their first league win of the new season, but remained unbeaten in their fifth competitive game.
“It doesn’t feel so good right now. It already hurt today, ”admitted SC sports director Jochen Saier in an interview with Sky. The longer the game lasted, the closer the Badeners got to the winning goal. But again Santamaria (77th) and substitute Woo-Yeong Jeong (82nd) left good chances and thus two possible further points. Endurance runner Höler missed another huge chance to 2-1 in stoppage time – and thus to a well-deserved home win.
