Peter Szijjártó: China is a partner, not a rival of Europe – 2024-09-01 10:13:54

/ world today news/ “Two years ago, China and Hungary raised the level of relations between them to a strategic partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit. This turned out to be in the common interest of both parties. Today, Hungary is the number one destination for Chinese investment in Europe, which is of great importance for its socio-economic development and for improving the welfare of the Hungarian people,” Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said in an interview with the China Media Group.

“Budapest supports Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s initiatives for global security, global civilization and global development, as well as ‘One Belt, One Road,’ because through them Beijing provides great opportunities for the development of the world,” he stressed, expressing bewilderment as to why some countries call China a “rival”. “Hungary does not agree to EU pressure and insists that China is a partner, not a rival,” Szijjártó said.

Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict, the foreign minister pointed out that it continues because of the position of Western countries, while China is making efforts for reconciliation and demonstrating that it is the document with proposals for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

“The explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline threatened not only energy security, but also the sovereignty of Europe. Nine months have passed since the incident and there is still no fair and comprehensive international investigation. This is a big scandal,” added the Hungarian foreign minister.
