Péter Sidi, a world and European champion sports shooter who is currently a competitor at Steaua Bucharest, was granted Romanian citizenship on Wednesday.
The granting of Romanian citizenship was decided by the Bucharest government at its meeting on Wednesday. According to the government’s decision, the 43-year-old sports shooter, born in Komárom, will not be domiciled in Romania.
According to Romanian media, Sidi Peter’s wife, Sidi Roxana, is also a competitor to Steaua and a member of the Romanian national team.
In June, the presidency of the Hungarian Sport Shooting Association (MSSZ) banned Péter Sidi for two years in the second instance – who was thus unable to travel to the Tokyo Games – for unauthorized entry into the room of István Péni, who later provided a positive doping pattern at the Indian World Cup. Sidi denied the accusation and then announced that he would challenge the disciplinary decision in court that he intended the MSSZ not to run in the 2024 Paris Olympics either.
