Peter Sarsgaard and Cailee Spaeny Take Home Top Honors at Venice Film Festival

American actor Peter Sarsgaard and his compatriot Cailee Spaeny won the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress on Saturday at the conclusion of the Venice Film Festival.

Sarsgaard, 52, won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of a man suffering from dementia, in Michel Franco’s film “Memory,” starring Jessica Chastain.

Also, 25-year-old Cailee Spaeny won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Priscilla, the wife of Elvis Presley.

“This is a very magical and completely unexpected experience,” said Spaini, expressing her gratitude for the “thoughtful and intuitive leadership” of the film’s director, Sofia Coppola.

Spaini portrayed the character of Priscilla Beaulieu-Presley when she was between the ages of 14 and 29, which allowed this character, who had remained in the shadows for a long time, to present her account of life with Elvis Presley, to whom she was married between 1967 and 1973.
