The last week of the 109th Tour de France begins. The cyclists spent the third free day of the race in the destination city of the 15th stage. The stage to Foix starts from Carcassonne and the program includes the first two climbs in the Pyrenees.

The big heat wave in France is set to continue and it can definitely shuffle the cards. The first 100 km are relatively easy, which comes in handy after a day off. Cyclists spin their legs before the nutritious end of the stage. The stage does not end on a hill, but it still cannot be underestimated. In the recent past, it was precisely similar profiles that brought about the biggest reversals in the overall order of the Big Three races.

Already 90 km before the end, the cyclists will pass near the finish line, but they will still have a very difficult circuit ahead of them through two Pyrenean hills. The first of them, Port de Lers, kicks off the second and more lively half of the stage. At 11.4 km, a 7-percent average gradient with a maximum of 10.3% awaits cyclists.

After descending to Massat, a shorter but steeper ascent begins. The Mur de Péguère is also classified as a category 1 hill, but if it had a few hundred meters more, it would definitely belong to the Hors catégorie climbs. The first six kilometers are relatively easy, but then real hell begins. The road rises sharply and the last 3,300 meters will still be above 11%. Maximums reach up to 18%, and this is where the decisive selections will be made. In an escape, a winning attack can come here, in a group of men fighting for the overall ranking, they will again attack to move up.

For Tadej Pogačar, the Tour is getting shorter very quickly. The three days in the Pyrenees are his last chance to gain enough time before the time trial. try to turn the race back to your side. In this stage, the fact that from the top of the last climb there are still 27.2 km to the finish line works against him. However, if he manages to leave Vingegaard, they would go head-to-head and it can be assumed that the Tour leader will not have more than one teammate with him. From this point of view, Pogačar’s team can start a fast pace already at Port de Lers, and the two-time Tour winner will try it on the second big hill.

Despite this scenario, the triumph of leakage is expected. If it forms early enough and gets an interesting lead, it will be very real. A number of high-quality mountaineers are already definitely gone from the battles for the highest ranks, so it will be a very interesting fight in the front group as well.
