One hundred and twenty-three victories in stages, prologues, at the domestic championship, including his overall triumphs in stage races, in addition to another 175 podium positions, another 190 positions in the top ten and 31 victories in scoring competitions, including seven at the Tour de France and one at Giro d´Italia. Such is the current balance in the still unfinished twelve seasons of three-time world champion Petr Sagan. Really famous numbers.
The Bora-hansgrohe and PETER SAGAN teams have finally announced the end of five years of cooperation
The Bora-hansgrohe team and himself, the historically most successful Slovak road cyclist Peter Sagan, announced yesterday, after five years of cooperation, its termination at the end of this year.
The opinion of the Bora-hansgrohe team states, inter alia:
„The departure of Sagan and Ackermann heralds a major change driven by strategic decisions. The successful journey the team has embarked on in the past will continue. Bora-hansgrohe wishes both riders the best and successful future. ”
„First of all, I would like to say that both riders are an important part of our team by the end of the year, and we have been able to celebrate many successes together in recent years. I am grateful for that. There are various reasons why we say goodbye now. As for Peter, we were in the negotiations until the last minute. Of course, I cannot disclose the details, but both sides worked constructively on the solutions, and we both wanted to move into the future together.
We intend to continue this development. We have already made several strategic decisions, and Peter has finally decided that he has another option that is more in line with his thinking. I have full respect for that before. Peter is part of our success story and has made a significant contribution to our development. We at Bora-hansgrohe will always be grateful for that. ” said Ralph Denk, general manager of the team.
In the next part of the opinion, Denk discusses the departure of Pascal Ackermann, who will leave the team, as will Peter Sagan, at the end of this season. We also received an e-mail from the Bora-hansgrohe team with a statement from Petr Sagan: “Today I would like to announce that my professional career is ending a cycle and that I will not renew my contract with Bora-hansgrohe after the end of the 2021 season. I would like to thank Ralph Denk, Willim Bruckbauer, the team’s sponsors, all my fellow passengers and the entire Bora-hansgrohe team for their support and trust in me during these five seasons.
We did so many things and we kept together even in difficult times. I don’t think we were just colleagues, we were part of a big family. I have no doubt that the five seasons I spent in Borahansgroh were among the most fruitful in my career, and some of my most memorable moments happened during that period. I became the first rider to claim three consecutive world titles, winning Paris-Roubaix.
With the colors of Bora-hansgrohe I recorded my 100th professional victory, I won my record seventh green jersey at the Tour de France and the first ever cyclamen jersey at the Giro d’Italia. After a long and thorough discussion, we decided that it would be best for our cooperation to end and that a new chapter would open in my life. Change is part of life and growth. “

We also tried to find out directly in France whether the future of the Žilina native will really be connected with TotalEnergies, which sports fans from the past remember such as Bonjour, Brioches La Boulangerie, Bouygues Telecom or Team Europcar. During the transfer to this team, the news, which he released into the world despite the strict rules of the UCI, bound by the deadline of August 1, by the general manager of the French Pro team Jean-Rene Bernardeau, penetrated the public a long time ago.
The current situation should be such that the connection of Petr Sagan’s future with this team is almost certain. Experts who monitor the situation in detail claim that there is only a two percent chance that Peter Sagan would not go to the French service, although he himself has never rushed too far into any French team. Slovak sports manager Giovanni Lombardi still claims that nothing is definitive yet, but these words seem unlikely.
However, there are never any principles in professional cycling, especially if Peter Sagan wants to take his traditional co-workers with him to his new place of work. Not only passengers, but also masseurs, mechanics, sports director and even media manager.
Today, it is uncertain whether the team with Peter Sagan will apply for a World Tour license or remain among the Pro teams. On the contrary, it is almost certain that with the arrival of the Slovak to the TotalEnergies team, the Specialized bicycle brand (recently concluded new contracts with Deceuninck-QuickStep and Bora-hansgrohe) will also enter there, which should cover most of the team’s costs for the multi-million contract for Sagan and him.
On Sunday, August 1, we should learn the final date about the future of the three-time world champion.
