Peter Molyneux has revealed that his next game will be set “in the land of Albion” – an intriguing revelation considering Albion is also the setting for now-defunct developer Lionhead’s Fable series, which Molyneux was heavily involved in before leaving the company.
This is the first concrete detail we’ve heard about Molyneux’s new game at 22Cans since he teased the project during last year’s Gamelab conference, saying it had mechanics that “never seen before in game” Last month, Molyneux revealed that the game is currently codenamed MOAT (an acronym).
His joke about Albion appears in a new post on Twitter/X, where he also introduced an ongoing blog in which he discusses his development processes.
It’s unclear how Albion will affect Molyneux’s new game, given that Microsoft currently owns the trademark for the Fable series and presumably owns the rights to the franchise. This doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of an official connection to Fable, of course, but it’s more likely that MOAT will simply include Albion as a more general concept – it is, after all, an alternative name for Great Britain that dates back centuries.
