About the as yet unannounced game of his studio 22Cans Molyneux told in an interview with Gamereactor. Before that, the game designer noted that he would not like to repeat his own mistakes and reveal details about the features of the project he is working on ahead of time.

In the case of Fable, the “god simulator” Godus, and a number of other games from the developer, many players remained disappointed or simply paid attention to how the final version differed from Molyneux’s promises. Therefore, from now on, he wants to be more careful in his words.

At one time, I just started telling you about the whole game, about all the features of its design and why it will be the most brilliant game in the world.

People listened to me, and in the end it only annoyed them and made them angry. So I won’t do it again.

True, the game designer could not restrain himself and mentioned that his studio is currently working on some mechanics that have not previously appeared in video games. He declined to talk about what exactly he was talking about, but noted that the upcoming game will be closer to the early works of Lionhead Studios.

But I think we’ve stumbled upon something worthwhile. I think that this will be a mechanic that has not yet been seen in games. And we are trying to build this very mechanics into the world, into the environment already familiar to people – due to which it will feel completely different.

Yes, I’m speaking in riddles because I don’t want to tell you what this game will be like. But it will be a lot like Fable, Black & White, Dungeon Keeper – something like that.

22Cans has been involved in the project for several years. Molyneux emphasized that his team is focused on PC and console versions, and is not yet considering mobile platforms, although almost all of the studio’s previous games have been released on iOS and Android.

I’m not saying that we will never release it on mobile devices, but for us the main thing is PC and consoles, because we need their power.

Although journalists asked the developer a few questions in an attempt to find out more about this as yet unnamed game, he still decided to keep the details a secret.

Of course, I am drawn to tell you about it or even turn on the video that we showed at the pitching … But this will not end in anything good, I will rattle everything up like that.

I can say this: firstly, this is the first game since Black & White for which I write code. That alone makes her very special to me. And secondly, this project is constantly evolving, we started working on ideas for it almost five years ago. So this game is very, very close to my heart.

Every part of me wants to tell you everything about it. But that would be stupid.

Peter Molyneux is best known as one of the lead designers at Bullfrog (Dungeon Keeper, Populous) and Lionhead (Fable, Black & White, The Movies). He founded his own independent studio 22Cans in 2012. In 2022, the company released its own blockchain game Legacy, but it is not associated with the studio’s next project.
