Peter Maffay: Music can unite in times of crisis

According to singer Peter Maffay, music has a unifying force in times of political crisis. “Music can bring people together and encourage them to make a strong, common statement,” said the 72-year-old in an interview with broadcaster ProSieben/Sat.1, which was published on Sunday. After the start of the war against Ukraine, Maffay played at the “Sound of Peace” solidarity concert in Berlin to promote peace. Among others, Mark Forster, Silbermond with singer Stefanie Kloß and Rea Garvey also performed there. With these musicians, Maffay is now a coach on the 12th season of “The Voice of Germany”, which will be broadcast on ProSieben on Thursdays and Sat.1 on Fridays from August 18th.

It’s a first for Maffay. “I knew the concept of “The Voice of Germany”, but I wasn’t a regular viewer,” he said. Once there, the concept carried him away: “A few times, without wanting to let it get that far, I was pretty spontaneous because it just grabbed me. There were some talents that I really wanted on my team.”
