Lawrence passed away Thursday at St Leonard’s Hospice, York, after a brief illness, his family said in a statement.
“She was a very reserved person in the light of the media and despite a tireless campaign to find her, she also selflessly dedicated herself to helping others with missing family members through the Missing People charity.”
Lawrence campaigned for the Guardianship (Missing Persons) Bill, also known as Claudia’s Law, which was passed in April 2017.
Claudia’s Law, which came into effect in July 2019, allows family members to take control of the financial affairs of their missing loved ones.

Families can petition Superior Court for guardianship of the affairs of a missing person after they have been missing for 90 days or more.
It means that they can make mortgage payments and handle bills on your behalf, whereas previously a missing person had to be declared dead for someone else to manage their assets for them.
His family added: “Despite Peter’s death, the message remains the same: where is Claudia?
