Peter Bosz sends PSV into the field against AZ with a very attacking line-up
Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 6:50 PM
Peter Bosz has announced PSV’s line-up for the match against AZ. The coach of the Eindhoven team is making several changes compared to the Champions League match with Arsenal (1-1). Joey Veerman, Luuk de Jong, Olivier Boscagli, Sergiño Dest and Jerdy Schouten return to the team. The match in the AFAS Stadium starts at 8:00 PM and can be seen on ESPN 1.
Walter Benítez is under the bar at PSV. Jordan Teze, Boscagli, Schouten and Dest form the defense of the Eindhoven team. André Ramalho is on the bench. The return of the latter two comes at the expense of Armando Obispo and Mauro Júnior.
Til, Veerman and Ismael Saibari are in midfield. Patrick van Aanholt, starter against Arsenal, moves to the bench. Captain De Jong returns at the front, Ricardo Pepi takes a seat on the bench. The flanks are occupied by Johan Bakayoko (right) and Malik Tillman (left). Hirving Lozano is fit enough to play again but starts on the bench.
AZ must recover from the painful elimination in the Conference League. The Alkmaarders had to win against Legia Warsaw, but lost without a chance (2-0). Things have not been going smoothly in the Eredivisie lately. One of the last three matches was turned into a win, meaning they had to relinquish second place to Feyenoord.
“We are looking forward to taking revenge as a team on Thursday and measuring ourselves against the best team in the Eredivisie,” Jansen said on the club website. “We are convinced that we are good enough to take the first points away from PSV.” Jansen knows that PSV is still flawless after fifteen rounds. “It is very special what PSV has achieved so far. They also say that if you keep winning, the first defeat comes closer.”
PSV is two games away from equaling a historic record. If Bosz’s team beats AZ, it will be their sixteenth consecutive victory in the Eredivisie this season. The record, seventeen victories in a row, is also in the name of PSV. The Eindhoven team managed to achieve that incredible series in the 1987/88 season. PSV won the national title and European Cup I that season.
In any case, PSV can look forward to a wonderful performance in the eighth final of the Champions League after the winter break. It will be announced on Monday which opponent will be linked to the Brabanders. “That is still too far away,” Bosz keeps the focus on the present. “The matches in all competitions follow each other so quickly, we have to stay focused. At the moment we are only busy with the match against AZ.”
