Bosz is the successor to Ruud van Nistelrooij at PSV. The former striker resigned before the last league game of the season because he felt insufficient support from the club management. After his unexpected departure, it quickly became clear that Bosz was the top candidate in the Philips Stadium.
Bosz will work with two old acquaintances at the number two in the Eredivisie. He played together with general manager Marcel Brands at RKC Waalwijk. He still knows technical director Earnest Stewart from his period as a player of NAC Breda.
PSV wanted to fill the trainer position quickly. The cup winner will play against champion Feyenoord on August 4 for the Johan Cruijff Scale. The third qualifying round of the Champions League is scheduled for the same month.
Bosz linked to FC Twente and Ajax
Bosz was approached by FC Twente in March, but the experienced coach declined the honor. Since Alfred Schreuder’s dismissal at Ajax in January, he was also often associated with a return to Amsterdam, but a renewed collaboration never materialised.
Bosz’s last coaching job was at Olympique Lyonnais. In October 2022, the club fired him for disappointing performance. Before that, the eight-time Orange-international coach of Vitesse, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and therefore Ajax, among others.
Bosz is known for getting his teams to play in an offensive and dominant manner. He won one main prize in his coaching career: in the 2004/2005 season he seized the title in the Eerste Divisie with Heracles Almelo.
In 2017 he lost the Europa League final to Manchester United with Ajax (2-0). Three years later, he went down with Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal final.
