“A budget was proposed in which defense funds were most seriously increased /with those for education and health care/to 2% of GDP. They will allow us to meet allied requirements as a NATO member country. However, it is important to talk about the efficiency and effectiveness of the measures covered by money,” said Petar Vitanov.
“Peace has disappeared as a fundamental value and goal of international relations. First the trust disappeared. After him – cooperation, in the end there was no room left for dialogue as a result of a long accumulation of mutual mistrust,” he added.
Petar Vitanov also spoke from his position as a rapporteur on artificial intelligence legislation in the EP.
“There are expectations that the European information security market will maintain almost double-digit growth rates in the period 2022-2026. Growing cyber security needs, new regulatory requirements and the increased risk of attacks due to the current geopolitical situation in Europe all contribute to higher costs. The market volume in terms of value should reach $71 billion in 2026,” said Petar Vitanov.
The EU and its Member States should reduce their strategic supply chain dependencies. But also to develop and master cutting-edge cyber defense technologies. This includes strengthening the European defense technological and industrial base, he also believes.
“Russia’s war in Ukraine shows the need for a stronger EU in security and defense. Power politics is back in the multipolar world and all the problems related to the development of the idea of collective defense are at the basis of the existence and perception of the EU as a primary actor in the system of international relations,” said Petar Vitanov.
